Inmates´ Pictures – Artistic works made by death row inmates

After having put in music and staging texts from inmates, the association Inmates´ Voices, for its fifth project, exhibits artistic works made in prison by death row convicts.

In solitary confinement, not allowed to work and cut off from the rest of the world, some prisoners use this loneliness to express themselves through art. With modest means, they get what they need to draw, paint, paste or glue and use objects from their every day life to create artistic trails reflecting their inside world.

These works have been made for themselves during epistolary exchanges set up by the association lifespark. The artists, sentenced to death, are confronted with existential questions, which they sometimes transpose in very surprisingly slight topics. Beyond an artistic performance, these works are first of all the answer to the urgent need of the inmates to express themselves and are undeniably used as a release.
